Todays rapid advances in science and technology drive the growth of businesses who are both exploiting these advances and who need to exploit them further to retain competitive advantage. These businesses need ready access to knowledge of these advances and in particular their technicians need training to meet the manufacturing demands of new technologies. The South East of England Development Agency (SEEDA) has therefore commissioned projects to establish a number of Regional Resource Centres to respond to this need.
The Regional Resource Centre for Advanced Technology is
offering industry, education and training organisation experts the chance
to help shape the future of this pioneering project. The STFC, in partnership
with Pera and The Precise Group, are soon to begin a series of industrial
mapping exercises to determine the type of training that the project will
deliver. These exercises will identify the skills gaps within the high-technology
sector, specifically in the areas of Advanced Instrumentation, ICT and Electronics.
The mapping exercises will use short surveys to explore gaps in employer and workforce skills needs both now, and in the future. The results of this analysis will determine how these needs can be satisfied in order to improve productivity and business performance within the sector.
This is your chance to set the skills priorities and direction that the newly formed centre will take over the next 18 months and beyond. Whether you are an employer, training provider, college or research institution you will be given the opportunity to influence training provision within the sector and influence the Regional Resource Centre’s future strategy and activities.
By understanding the needs and challenges faced by the Advanced Technology sector, the Regional Resource Centre can direct its training and brokering activities towards the skills areas of greatest importance.
